Hunt 2017: Capture the Firebird

Topics

The Firebird of Russian fable.

Move over, Beatles—Sgt. Pepper isn't alone in celebrating an anniversary this year.

It was 30 years ago today
We made a Treasure Hunt so folks could play
It's been going in and out of style
But I hope that you'll still flash a smile
When we send this invite to you
To the Hunt you've known for all these years
The 30-year Treasure Hunt DC!

That's right—our first Hunt was way back in 1987. Lately, we've been delegating Hunt operations to Gene Weingarten, Dave Barry, and Tom Shroder as part of the Post Hunt. But since they've dropped the ball this year, it's time to bring back original management. Besides, a nice round number like 30 is too good an opportunity to miss.

As part of the anniversary festivities, I've significantly expanded the Treasure Hunt pages here on etgdesign.com. Drop by to learn about the previous events. If you were a participant, please share a memory in the comments sections!

Hunt 2017 Logistics

This year's Hunt offers three ways to participate: in person, online, or as a facilitator.

  • In Person: The live Hunt will involve trekking through hilly woodlands. There may or may not be a path, so be prepared!
  • Online: If you like the mental challenge but aren't sure about the hiking, you'll be able to solve the Hunt on this website after the live event ends.
  • Facilitator: If you want to join in the fun but don't like puzzles, you can be a facilitator. This typically involves some light role-playing at a Hunt destination, handing out clues to solvers.

If you're interested in the live event (either as a solver or a facilitator), please add your name on Doodle and choose the dates you're available. With luck, one of those times will work for everyone who wants to attend. If not, I'll send around another poll.

Hope to see you at the Hunt!
