Recently I attended one grandfather’s 90th birthday, also visiting my 93-year-old other grandfather. Trying to describe my iPhone in terms of real-world analogs produced the following list. (Naturally, other iPhones will represent different objects.)
Having an iPhone is like carrying these in your pocket:
- Telephone
- Phonograph and hundreds of LPs
- Television
- VCR and a shelf of movies
- Remote control
- Radio
- Camera
- Photo albums
- Super-8 movie camera
- Alarm clock
- Carpenter’s bubble level
- File cabinet full of letters
- Typewriter
- Calendar
- Address book
- Public library
- Newsstand
- Atlas, compass, and sextant
- Personal assistant
- Translator
- Calculator
- Chess set and opponent
- Casino
- Crossword puzzle collection
- Pinball machine
- Shelf full of other games
- …oh yeah, and a computer.
