The Scientist rapidly does some calculations and smiles ecstatically.

The learned scholar eyes you with interest. “In fact,” he continues, “Perhaps you can help me with another thorny matter. If you do, you’ll be three obols richer. (I’m on a research grant.) See that raft just off the coast?”
You nod.
“Well, there’s a cannonball on the raft that is just about to roll off into the ocean. I need to know whether the sea level will rise or fall when that happens—and why.”
