Seven Brooks brothers sailed from the British Isles on the Speedwell around 1635 to Jamestown, Va. (The 2nd or 3rd trip of the Speedwell.) The brothers scattered to different locations of the country—Ohio, Virginia, Massachusetts, and Maryland.
Ancestor Phillips Brooks (b. 1835 in Boston, Mass.; d. 1893) graduated from Harvard in 1855 and Protestant Episcopal Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Va., in 1859. He was Rector of Trinity Church in Boston in 1869 and elected Bishop of Massachusetts in 1891. He also was the author of several volumes of sermons and lectures and penned the popular Christmas song O Little Town of Bethlehem.
