When I Was Young

Aidan at 1 month

Aidan was born July 18, 2000, in Kyeonggi-do, South Korea. He was given his mother's family name (Jang) and a compound given name meaning bright (Myeong) and pure (su), but since he has arrived home in the States he's been Aidan Jang Grant. Here he is at one month, when—according to the Korean social worker who oversaw his development—Aidan was cute and manly. : )

Aidan with foster mom

At right is Aidan with his foster mom, Kim Cheong-Ja. He's probably about two months old and looks to be enjoying the Seoul fall. Mrs. Kim is a loving grandmother who has been a foster mom for seven years now.

Aidan at five months

At left is Aidan's five-month birthday picture, taken in the Photo Room at Eastern Social Welfare Society (the Korean agency responsible for Aidan since his birth). What a change in just four months!

Aidan in hanbok

A few days before Christmas (that's a few days before we flew out to Korea!), Aidan received this beautiful hanbok (traditional Korean outfit) from his foster family. The purse contains about 2000 won (roughly $2), which we guess is for good luck and prosperity throughout his life. Mr. and Mrs. Kim gave us a larger hanbok as a parting gift.
